Newsmesis is a reader-facing news service operated by Newsmesis (operator to register). This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights. We collect as little as possible: there are no reader accounts.
What we collect
Readers: anonymous usage analytics (page views, referrer, approximate region, device type) and standard server logs (IP address, user agent) kept briefly for security and abuse prevention. We do not require reader sign-in and do not build advertising profiles.
Editors: staff who sign in to the admin desk have a signed session cookie. This applies only to authorized editorial users, never to readers.
Cookies
Essential: a session cookie for signed-in editors only. Analytics: optional cookies set only after you consent; you can decline and the site works fully without them. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Service providers (processors)
We use Google Analytics (usage analytics, only with consent), our hosting/database provider (site delivery and, for editors, authentication), and an AI provider (Anthropic) to assist drafting and verification by processing publicly published source material. These providers process data on our behalf under their terms.
AI-assisted content & source material
Articles are produced with AI assistance and approved by a human editor before publishing. To verify claims we keep a private, size-bounded cache of source article text used for fact-checking only; it is never shown to readers and is automatically purged on a retention schedule or on a valid takedown request.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g. EU GDPR, Republic of Korea PIPA) you may request access, correction, deletion, or object to processing. Contact privacy@newsmesis.example. Retention, transfers, children, changes
Logs and analytics are retained only as long as needed for security and measurement. Some providers may process data outside your country under appropriate safeguards.
